Great Southern Land

I have been hearing the song 'Great Southern Land' by Icehouse a lot recently because it is the theme song for the Sound Relief concert ads - this is the benefit concert for those affected by Victoria's bushfires.

Hearing this song over and over again reminded me of this photograph, for a couple of reasons. I took this photo in 2005 from a RAAF 707 as I flew over central Australia, I gave the photo this name not only because of the unique colour of the Australian landscape below, but because it was the song that was playing on my mp3 player at the time.

I have not posted this photo before because I was new to digital photography when I took it and I did not do a good job of post-processing it. I think that it is a good time to bring it out and process it again because when I took this photo I was traveling to another natural disaster that shocked the world and inspired many benefit concerts worldwide. At the end of the flight I found myself in Indonesia working for the Tsunami relief effort.
