I just got back home from 3 weeks near Katherine in the Northern Territory, once again this is a work trip so I didn't get much time to go out shooting. On the one day I got off I decided to head out to Edith Falls. I checked to see if any of my co-workers were interested, given that it was 40 degrees and very humid I ended up driving out there alone.
In the dry season Edith Falls is swarming with tourists but in the wet season it is completely. I took a quick stroll around the bottom falls and then decided to walk to the top falls despite the heat. The walk to the top falls is about 2km - mostly uphill. Going slowly and keeping hydrated I made my way up there. I could see a stunning storm in the distance which looked like it would miss my spot.
But if it did hit, the rain had to be a lot nicer than the heat!
I continued on and after another hundred meters I slipped and rolled my ankle. I've had some bad injuries before and I instantly knew that this one was bad. I screamed a word that was not particularly polite - lucky no one was around to hear it! That was the problem though, I thought that I had broken my ankle while all alone in the bush and with about 1 km to walk back to the car.
After the pain subsided I checked my camera gear. My tripod had copped another scratch but my camera was ok and my bag had protected the rest of my gear from damage in the fall. I did some quick checked on my ankle, it didn't seem too bad so I made my way gingerly to my feet I could put weight on it so it couldn't be too bad - right?
I'd come all that way so I wasn't about to go home without getting a photo of the falls. I got there to find the storm quickly approaching, but before it was a stunning rainbow!
I quickly got my camera out but the rain started to come down, I hobbled over rocks to a good position and started shooting handheld. In between shots I had to lower the camera to stop the lens from getting wet and I had to quickly raise the camera, take my shot then lower it so my shots were not blurred by water drops on the lens.
After the rainbow faded I decided it was time to go. The water was really coming down now and being in the low point of terrain by a flowing river had me concerned that I might get flooded! I grabbed my poncho but I was already well soaked by the time I got it on - same with the rain cover to my bag! I started to walk back very carefully, my ankle being quite painful again. It was a slow careful walk back to the car and a very uncomfortable drive back to the hotel.
The next day the doctor diagnosed a sprain and prescribed ice, strapping and a rest. It's still quite sore but to get a fantastic waterfall shot with a rainbow behind it was worth the effort!

Moving On
It's been an interesting couple of years on deviant art and while I'll keep checking this account I'm now concentrating keeping Facebook updated with my recent work. If you want to keep following my work head over to the link and 'like' my page.

Why the change?
With limited time in my life to upload to the web I've got to concentrate on what I think will give me the best publicity. Sharing photos amongst artists is a good way to get critiques but artists simply don't want to buy other artists work. If only dA would create a Publishing Service plug in for Lightroom, keeping my portfolio updated on Face
Back behind the camera again!
As you can probably see, I'm back taking photos again. After 6 long and very hard months I completed my course with work and looking forward to life getting back to normal again. I don't have any big shoot planned but there are a few ideas I need to follow up. While I didn't have time to shoot so far this year I've still be out and about seeing places that will warrant a future shoot. Now I've got the time to get out there and shoot them.
Gonna be offline for a while
I haven't posted any new work for a while, I'm flat out with work at the moment taking a very intensive course that will finish in July. Photography is kind of on the back burner while I get through this - any spare time I get will be spent relaxing at home! I'll check back here occasionally to answer comments but please be patient - I'm looking forward to getting through this course and I'll be back shooting in July!
Still Alive!
Yes, I'm still alive!
I haven't been posting here regularly for a while because I've decided to prioritise other things in my life. The gardens of our new house are my new hobby and I've spent a lot of time turning a dust bowl into a thriving green garden!
By far the biggest change has been the birth of our second child. Grace Ellen Vine was born on the 21st September, both mum and bub are doing very well but having two kids really limits your free time! I spend a lot of time behind the camera but I tend to be pointing it at kids these days!
